Never Have I Ever Writing Tag!

Time for a small diversion from my story!

I saw this writing tag on Weird Zeal’s blog and I couldn’t resist doing it.

The tag was originally created by The Long Voyage

And here are my responses!

Never Have I Ever…

…started a novel that I didn’t finish.

Uhhh….I have two that are works in progress that I’m aiming to finish. Does that count? No?

…written a story completely by hand.

I have! Before I got my own computer, I used to write all of my stories by hand. We had a family computer, but it was a big boss desktop kind and most often than not, I’d get into a writing streak and someone would come into the computer room and be all “I need to use the computer now!” And I’d be like “But….I just want to finish one small thing.”

…changed tenses midway through a story.

I don’t think I’ve done this.

…not researched anything before starting a story.

When I was younger, yeah. I may have been guilty of this. Nowadays, however, I’m like *intense internet searching* “Did they have indoor plumbing at this point in time?”

…changed my protagonist’s name halfway through a draft.

Nope! I’ve actually done the opposite. I gave my main character a stand-in last name of Smith with the plans to change it to something more outstanding. I’m more than half-way through the story now and his last name is still Smith.

…written a story in a month or less.

I look at my current story that I’ve been writing for the past couple years. Uhhh….Do short stories count? 😀

…fallen asleep while writing.

Not necessarily as I’m writing. But I’ll be writing and think, “Ah, I’ll just lay down and close my eyes for a bit.” Suddenly, it’s three hours later. 😆

…corrected someone’s grammar IRL/online?

Nope!

…yelled in all caps at myself in the middle of my novel.

Maybe not out loud and not necessarily at myself. More like at my characters. They tend to say or do things that make me wince and go “OH, DANG!”

…used “I’m writing” as an excuse.

Nope! I may have thought it, though.

…killed a character that was based on someone I know in real life.

Luckily for the people around me, I don’t base my characters on real life people. 😉

…used pop culture references in a story.

Yes. So much yes. Some I might edit out when I finish the story, but overall yes. I’ve done Star Wars references, pop song references, and made up songs for real life bands.

…written between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.

I generally try not to stay up past 2:00a.m., but it has happened. One time I stayed up writing until about 5a.m. and I was like “I’m not that tired, but I NEED to go to sleep now or I will regret it later.”

…drank an entire pot of coffee while writing.

Nope! I’m the weird kind of person who likes the smell of coffee, but hates the taste of it.

…written down dreams to use in potential novels.

Surprisingly enough, no.

…published an unedited story on the internet/blog/Wattpad.

Hmm. *Stares thoughtfully at my ambroseandelsie blog*. Define unedited.

…procrastinated homework because I wanted to write.

I tended to hurry up and finish my homework so I could write.

…typed so long that my wrists hurt.

Nope!

…spilled a drink on my laptop while writing.

Thank goodness no! That would be awful if it happened.

…forgotten to save my work/draft.

Yes. And it is the worse thing. I’ve also accidently saved and posted an incomplete draft. I’d dive in and complete it as fast as I could, all the while thinking, “I hope no one saw that.”

…finished a novel.

*Still staring intensely at my current story* It’s a work in progress.

…laughed like an evil villain while writing a scene.

Yes! So much yes! 😆

…cried while writing a scene.

Not yet. But I know I will when I finally write a certain spoilerific scene.

…created maps of my fictional worlds.

Nope! I’m actually very bad about doing that sort of thing.

…researched something shady for a novel.

Fortunately, I’ve never had to search for something shady. But oh! The research I did for my two main characters’ weddings.  I felt like I was planning a real wedding with all the details I had to look up.

I have also had to look up weird details like when did indoor plumbing become a thing and what did soap smell like during this time period.

  1. I loved reading your answers for these! Haha the mental image of you saying “OH DANG” out loud in response to your characters is amazing 😂 Researching/planning a fictional wedding sounds like it could be so fun!

    Good luck with your writing!!

    1. Thank you so much! When I read over the questions for this tag, I just couldn’t resist doing it. They all spoke to me.

Planning my main characters’ weddings involved so much researching, everything from the wedding dress to the wedding favors to the reception decorations. Writing Ambrose’s wedding gave me such a high, I felt like I had actually married off my own child or something. Especially since that whole week leading up to the wedding had felt like a whole month of days. There were so many details for my characters to work out and so many subplots that needed to be dealt with before the wedding. So, when they were finally driving Ambrose to the church, I was like “Wait. Is this really happening? Did I skip a day somewhere??”

What I’m really proud of is the fact that I did back-to-back weddings and it didn’t feel like a copy and paste. The wedding ceremony was the same, but there were a lot of differences. Reading back on those chapters makes me feel just so dang proud of how they both turned out.
