“We should ignore it.” Barbara said.
He smiled a sleepily flirtatious smile. “Is there something you’d rather be doing?”
She blushed. “Maybe?”
“Mmm, what did you have in mind?”
Barbara thought it over. “Well. We could jut lay here and talk about trivial things.”
He tucked his hand under her hair and rubbed the back of her neck.
She closed her eyes and luxuriated in the feel of his hand on her skin. Its warmth. His fingers. The movement of his fingers. It all made her lose track of what she was going to say.
“Trivial things, hmm?”
“mmm-hmm. Umm. Or we could….ummm…”
She opened her eyes. “Go back to sleep.”
He let out a surprised laugh. “What?”
“Well, you’re tired and you need your sleep and…and…” She leaned her head back. “Oh, that feels so good.”
“Do you want me to stop?”
“ohhh, no. No, keep going.”
The phone stopped ringing.
Ambrose gently swept her hair away from the side of her face. He murmured in her ear,”Is there anywhere else you want me to touch you like this?”
A full list of answers came to her mind. And she knew that he wasn’t putting ideas in her head. Each answer was hers and hers alone. “Uh-huh.”
Barbara blinked in surprise. “Wow. Thar was loud. Even I heard that.”
AMBROSE! PICK UP YOUR PHONE AND GIVE ME A CALL!
Ambrose winced. “Keep your butler clothes on, Raven.” He pulled his phone out from under his pillow and called him back.
Raven apparently answered on the first ring.
“Hey, what’s the big idea yelling inside my head this early in the morning? What?” He sat up. “No, I’m fine. Obviously. What’s wrong? What is…Is it Robin? Is he okay? Have you heard from him?”
Barbara sat up.
“No, don’t worry about it. I’ll call him. You go back to sleep, Raven. I’m sure he’s okay.” Ambrose smiled affectionately. “He’s Robin. He’s probably sound asleep, but I’ll give it try. Yeah. See you tonight. Yeah, bye.”
“What’s wrong?” Barbara asked.
“I don’t know. Raven said this intensely bad feeling woke him up.” He went into his Contacts and pressed Robin’s name. “He thought that maybe something happened to me.” He frowned. “Straight to voicemail.”
“Just like before.”
“Hey, Robin? I don’t know how often you check your messages, but whenever you get this one, give Raven a call. The old mother hen’s all worried about you. And so am I. Please let us know you’re okay. I realize you’re probably sleeping. Maybe with Isellta, maybe not. Just…” He pressed the heel of his hand against his forehead. “ughh…tired…give us a call. Please. I think that’s all I want to say. Call us. Bye.”
