Part 1851 – A Failed Temptation

Ambrose followed Elsie out into the hall. “So, what am I supposed to do for you?”

“Find Jeff.”

He smirked. “Find Jeff. Do you honestly think that scents come with name tags?”

She folded her arms across her chest.

“Who is Jeff, anyway? Is that someone I’m supposed to know?”

“Don’t play stupid. You know who he is.”

“Maybe. But I would like you to tell me.”

Elsie huffed out an irritated breath. “I swear you vampires are all the same.”

He laughed. “So, what? Are you saying that I’m the same as Raven? The same as Robin? You know that isn’t true, Elsie. You know how I am. You know what I am like.”

“I don’t have time to play your games, Ambrose. Find him.”

“And what? You’ll throw me a bone, pat me on the head, and call me a very good boy?”

“Ambrose, I swear if you don’t—”

He took a quick step forward into her space.

She stood her ground with her arms seemingly permaglued across her chest.

Her scent tangled around him, whispering seduction and temptation.

It folded fingers with him and tried to tug his hands upward to touch her.

To caress her.

Ambrose walked into the middle of the hall. “He’s with Hildreth, I presume?”

“Then, I’ll find him.” He glanced back at her. “It’s probably best if you don’t come with me.” He chuckled. “We don’t want to give your boy Hildreth the wrong impression, do we?”

Elsie lowered her arms. “Can I trust you to not provoke him into a fight?”

He shrugged. “Can I help it if he feels intimidated by me? Nope. That’s his mental deficiency, not mine.”

“Ambrose, if you touch him. If you lay any of your ten fingers on him—”

He turned serious. “I won’t. I won’t touch him. Or you. I promise.” Having said that, he left.

Ambrose waited until he had turned the corner. He stopped and leaned against the wall.

I wanted to kiss her, but I didn’t. I didn’t do it. I didn’t do anything.

He pulled out his cell phone and dialed Barbara’s number.

She answered on the second ring. “Hi! This is Barbara.”

He closed his eyes. “Barbara. I love you. I love you so much.”

“What’s wrong? Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

“No. Barbara, I’m here at the hospital, visiting with Raven. I. Barbara, Elsie’s here.”

She gasped.

“It’s okay.” He smiled. “I’m okay. I had a small moment where I wanted to kiss her and I didn’t. I didn’t give in. Barbara, I didn’t give in this time. Oh, Barbara! I wish you were here. I want to see you. I love you. I love just you.”
