Ambrose entered the room, just as Robin sat up on the bed. “Oh, good. You’re still alive. Well, that’s a load off my mind. Bye.” He turned around to leave the room.
“Am’rose. Wait.”
He stopped.
“You really think she’s gone and done that to him?”
He turned to face the younger vampire. “What?”
“Preyuna. You think she’s really forced Isellta into it four times?” He ran his hand through his messy brown hair. “Is that e’en possible? I mean, forcin’ him once…That’s bad enough. But four times? At what point is it no longer forcin’? At what point does he give in and enjoy it? How many times does it take him to want it from just her?”
“Robin.” He walked over to him and sat on the bed.
Robin bowed his head. “At what point does that fey think ‘Robin just ain’t worth it’?”
Ambrose laid his hand on top of Robin’s hands. “I could be wrong. Or Jay could be lying.”
“That’s stupid. Why would Jay lie about it? He wants me to come. What? He thinks lyin’ about Isellta’s big conquest is gonna impress me into rushin’ over there so I can be the next one in line? That’s just dumb and stupid non-thinkin’.”
“True enough. But I could also be wrong.”
“Yeah.” Robin snorted. “That’s e’en better. So, he did it with her four times because he’s just so hot for her. Yep. I’m just feelin’ sooooo much better now. Thanks.”
Ambrose bonked him on the head with his fist.
“Ow!”
“I know what I saw when you two were together. He loves you, Robin. It’s obvious.”
Robin rubbed his head. “It weren’t all that obvious to me.”
“Well, that’s because you’re young and incredibly dense.”
“Thanks for the ego boost.”
“You’re welcome. Isellta never struck me as the kind of person who’d jump partners for the fun of it.”
“So, why’s he sluttin’ it up with her?”
“I don’t know. I don’t understand it. I just believe that there is a reason. There is something going on over there, Robin. Something we don’t know about. Did you call Jay back?”
“Yeah. Got a busy signal. I called him back. Went straight to voice mail. I left a message. Called him back again. Voice mail again. Left another message. He ain’t called me back yet.”
“Are you sure?”
“Duh. I’ve been listenin’ for my phone to ring.”
“You do have the ringer on, right? Apparently, those things can be shut off.”
“Dummy. Just how stupid do you think I am? Of course, I got my ringer on and it’s full volume. And, in case you were wond’rin’, yes. My phone’s at full charge.”
“Okay. That makes me feel better.”
“Oh, yay for you.”
“What are you going to do?”
Robin got out of bed. “Help you fold laundry before I get to dismantlin’ my bed again. I’ll call Jay back before dawn. It’ll go straight to his voice mail, no doubts there. But maybe I’ll catch him awake.”
Ambrose nodded. “That sounds like an excellent plan.”
