Part 1052 – Manipulating Mark Caten

Preyuna entered her room and locked the door.

“Hello, cupcake.”

Her wings flared out.

Mark Caten finished flossing his teeth. He dropped the floss on the bed and strolled over to her.

“Out! I don’t feel like dealing with you or your ego right now.”

“Aww, cupcake. That isn’t very nice. And after I had to wait sooooo long for you.” He grabbed her neck with both hands. “You know how much I hate waiting.”

“Tough. Out! Now.”

He smirked. “Not so fast, my little pop tart. You did a naughty thing.” He tightened his grip. “You set your sappy lap dog on me. Of course, your stupid papillon couldn’t handle it. Hahahahahaha! He tried to sweet talk me into letting you two go. Hahahahahaha. Ahh. Hahahahahahahahaha! Then, he tried to bully me. Imagine that! That scrawny, sick boll weevil infested bent twig dared to bully me. Me! Mark Freakin’ Caten.”

Her feathers bristled.

“Hmm.” He tapped his index finger against his lips. “I seem to remember making a threat about what I’d do to you next time you failed to off me. I believe…” He pursed his lips against his finger. “Mm. Yes. Now, I remember. I said I’d have your wings broken and take away your healing ability. And you know me, cupcake. I am a man of my word.”

She turned into Olessa.

He gasped. “O…Olessa? Is that you?”

She smiled and threw her arms around his neck. “I love you, daddy.”

Mark Caten hugged her. “My little girl. I love you too.”

Preyuna’s mind raced with all of the possibilities. I have him right where I want him. Open and vulnerable. If I could kill him, this would be the right moment to do it.

“I was always so proud of you.”

“I know.”

“There was never a day, never a moment, when I was ashamed to be your father.” He exhaled a shaky breath. “I’m sorry.” he whispered. “I wasn’t there to protect you. My little girl. My crème brulee. I never would have…I never…”

“It’s okay.”

He shook his head. “It will never be okay. I will never be okay. I want to forget all of the blood and the gore and the crushed bones blended into the snow.” He released her, only to grab her shoulders. “Tell me. I need to know the truth. The monster who killed you…Was it Ambrose Smith?”

Well. Isn’t this an interesting series of lines? Isellta refuses to kill him. I don’t know if Robin will be any more agreeable. Probably not. I will still ask him, of course. And if he refuses, I will still imprison him. Of course.

Ambrose Smith.

She refrained from smiling.

Yes. Ambrose Smith will gladly kill him. Which leads me back to my original plan.

“Yes. Ambrose Smith killed me. Don’t ask for the details. It hurts my soul to remember.”

“I knew it! I’ll kill him!”

“The best way to do that is to lure him into a no-win situation.”

“Yes. Force him to surrender.”

“You should be the one who stakes him.”

“That was a given. Ooo! I like this plan.”

She allowed herself to smile. “So do I.”

His expression softened. “Are you going to stay with me?”

“I’ll always be near you, even if you can’t see me.” Preyuna dropped the illusion. “I’m sorry. Were you talking to me?”

He shook his head and left the room.

Preyuna smiled. “That should keep his mind off of breaking my wings.”
