Part 1050 – Reaching A Decision

Robin flexed his hands as he headed into the business side of town.

I wanna run to him.

Right now.

I wanna hug him, hold him, kiss him.

I wanna just go.

I wanna just run.

He stopped outside the store front for Your Junk = My Treasures.

I wish he was here now.

I’d go wherever he wants, do whatever he wants, as long as he was here with me.

Darn, stupid fey.

Soft, fluttery fey.

Isellta.

My soft, sweet Isellta.

He resumed walking.

He stopped and glanced back at the store.

He smiled.

Robin turned around and entered Your Junk = My Treasures.

Isellta tucked his face in Maelin’s neck and held on to the back of her robe.

Maelin’s hands moved in a soothing pattern up and down the middle of his back. “It’s okay, angel. It’s okay. You’re with us. You’re safe.”

“I wish I could stay with you and Jay.” He sniffled. “I can’t. Her Majesty would get mad at me. She already is mad at me.”

Jay came as close as the magical barrier would allow. “Did she hurt you again?”

Isellta didn’t answer.

“Isellta.” Maelin said gently. “Did Preyuna hurt you?”

He tightened his grip on her robe. “She wanted me to kill Mark Caten. I tried to obey her. I did my best. I knew the words to say and I started to say them.” He sniffled. “I couldn’t do it. What if killing him is a mistake? What if it traps me here forever? What if I can never go home?”

He closed his eyes. “She hit my shoulder with her fist.”

Jay swore.

“Has she hit you before?” Maelin asked.

Isellta released her and backed away. “I don’t want to talk about it.” he said softly.

Jay gave Maelin a hurt look. “Isn’t there anything you can do to get him out of here? Any dragon magic? Fey magic? Any combination of both?”

“No.”

“Try.”

“Jay, I can’t.”

“Darn it, Mae! Try! Do something. Help him.”

She walked up to him and laid her hands on his shoulders. “Jay.”

His body visibly relaxed.

“I’m sorry. If I knew a way to break these spells on him, I would. I would have done it by now.”

He looked away from her.

She tilted her head. “Sweetheart, you know that.”

“I know.”

Isellta watched Maelin and Jay talk. He didn’t pay much attention to what they were actually saying. He watched how they talked. How Jay looked at her when she was talking and vice versa. He watched how they touched each other like they couldn’t help it. As if it were the most natural and ordinary thing.  How her touch calmed him down.

They’re so natural and easy together.

Will Robin and I ever be like that?

Will we ever get a chance to be like that? Or will Queen Preyuna’s magic keep us always apart?

Robin.

I wish you were here.

Six days.

Only six days and he’ll be here. My Robin will be here.

His wings flittered.

I know what I have to do.

He stood. “Jay. Maelin.”

They looked back at him.

“I’m…umm.” He straightened his back. “I’m going to go back to Her Majesty.”

Jay frowned. “No. You stay away from her.”

“Jay. I have to. Robin will be here so soon. I want….no. I need to be able to touch him. I need him to love me and he can’t do that if he can’t come close to me. I need to talk to Her Majesty about removing the magical barrier. After everything I’ve done for her, she can at least do me this one small favor.”

“Do you honestly think she will?”

“Probably not. She hates Robin because she thinks he’s ugly. I don’t understand that. Robin has always been pretty to me. Even with the scar on his face, he’s still pretty. He’s still Robin.”

Jay smiled. “You really do have it bad for him, don’t you?”

Have it bad? It?

Have.

It.

Bad.

What does that mean?

“Okay. Go talk to her. But I swear if she punches you again, I’ll punch her. And it won’t be her shoulder.”

Isellta smiled and flapped his wings.
