Part 896 – It’s A Ghost!

Raven untucked his shirt and removed it altogether.

He glanced around, hoping to find a suitable place to set it. But they were still standing on the stairs.

And there wasn’t a single dresser or table anywhere in sight.

He put his shirt back on and let it hang loose on his frame.

Missy scowled, but the teasing glimpses of his bare chest shortened that scowl’s life. She smiled. “So pretty. So lovely.”

She widened the gap.

He closed his eyes.

Her lips touched the middle of his chest in a gentle kiss.

He started to smile.

The scent of mulberries and vanilla drifted in between them.

He opened his eyes and glanced around.

His pupils widened.

He forgot to breathe.

May Rose Farlington stood at the bottom of the staircase, dressed in a gold and crystal ballgown. Beige lace gloves covered her arms.

She looked at him.

Missy must have sensed something. She raised her head. “What’s wrong?”

May Rose smiled and glided towards the kitchen.

Raven ran after her.

She faded through the door.

Raven burst into the room.

She stroked the phone with her lace-covered fingers.

“Miss…May Rose?”

She looked down at the phone and then back up at him.

He tripped over his own feet as he approached her. “May Rose.”

She smiled.

He started to reach for her.

She caught his hand.

He gasped.

All of the memories they ever shared played through his mind.

Tears fell down his face.

She put his hand on the phone.

“May—”

She guided his fingers around the handset.

“Will you not speak to me? Will you say nothing at all?”

She shook her head.

And she disappeared.

Missy entered the room. “Raven?”

He looked down at the phone. It took him several minutes to recognize it as a phone. He picked it up. “Hello?”

A woman spoke in his ear.

But it was not May Rose Farlington.

He pushed the disappointment as far down as it could go. “Hello? This is Raven speaking. How may I help you?”

Raven forced himself to pay attention to her response. “I see. Yes.” He glanced up at Missy. “Yes, she is right here. Please hold on.”  He offered the phone to Missy.

She took it and resumed talking to her.

Raven stopped paying attention.

Why did she lead me to the phone?

Why did she not speak to me?

He frowned.

Why did she appear at all?

Why must she haunt me? Why can she not let me go?

He thought back on his conversation with Missy.

When will I let her go?

His day exhaustion leeched away his energy.

He stumbled over to the table and sat in a slouch. His hands lay limp in his lap. He watched her talk and talk and talk and it made his day exhaustion worse.

He laid his head on the table and closed his eyes.

  1. Anytime someone introduces ghosts into a story, I like it 😉 I do like the aspect of how Raven is haunted by the past and his love for MIss Farlington. I hope he’ll eventually learn to let her go though. I fear for he and Missy and their relationship.

    1. Thank you!

All I can say is: I have something big planned to resolve the Raven and Miss Farlington plot line. I’m totally looking forward to writing it. It’s going to be awesome! 😀

On a side note, I died just a little yesterday. I was looking over my recent chapters and I discovered that I’d accidently overwrote Part 894 “What Do You Want From Me?” with an incomplete version of it. Fortunately, I was able to rewrite it from memory. Still. I was like “Oh, darn. I hope no one saw that. 😦 “
