Isellta’s back muscles twitched, but his wings were concealed. He was just another woman walking down the street.
He was supposed to walk down the sidewalk, looking neither to the left nor to the right and somehow that would attract a vampire’s attention. It didn’t make much sense to him, but then. It wasn’t his plan. It was Olessa’s plan.
“I need a new vampire to do my experiments on. My last one became too useless. So, I had to stake him.”
“I see. But Olessa, this plan. It doesn’t make sense.”
“Shut it, fey. I’m in charge. Not you.”
So, here I am, trying to exude womanly charm all over the place.
Oh!
The display window for the antique shop Your Junk = My Treasures beckoned to him.
And he couldn’t resist.
He approached the window and peered at the marvelous objects inside. Unknown objects covered with bits and flakes of rust kept company with solid pieces of hard metal and items of old wood mixed with new metal.
He laid his hand on the glass. “It’s a wonderland. I want to go in there and touch them all.”
Someone stopped behind him. “Ain’t all that impressive. It’s all junk. Ain’t any treasures in there. No matter what their stupid name may be.”
“Maybe. But they are such curious things.”
The man snorted. “Trust me. Junk. Just junk.”
Isellta turned around.
The man behind him had a strong jawline. Wonderfully thick brown hair. Warm brown eyes. He looked like someone who belonged in plain sight. Someone who should be seen.
Isellta’s back muscles twitched again and Isellta wasn’t fully sure why.
He gave Isellta’s womanly figure an appraising look. “You should come with me.”
“Why?”
He smiled and Isellta liked how it enchanted his face. “I want to be alone with you.”
“Oh?” His back muscles went still.
The man took Isellta’s hand. “You coming?”
Isellta nodded. He followed him around the corner. “Where are you taking me?”
“Somewhere where no one can see us.”
“Why?”
“Because.” The man stopped and bared his fangs. “I’m hungry.”
Isellta panicked and ran in the opposite direction.
The vampire chased him.
Isellta ducked into an alley.
The vampire caught up to him and grabbed him and pushed him against the wall.
“No. Please don’t.” He struggled and kicked ineffectively.
The vampire lowered his mouth to Isellta’s neck. He stopped and raised his head. “You have no scent.’
Isellta smiled. “Took you long enough to notice.” He pulled the hypodermic needle out of his sleeve and stabbed the weak spot in the vampire’s chest right above his heart.
He pushed the plunger.
The vampire’s pupils shrank to the size of a pinprick.
Isellta transformed into his true form and looked at him with blatant curiosity. “You’re the first vampire I’ve ever seen. I know it doesn’t make sense, but it’s true.”
The vampire dropped into unconsciousness.

“And that’s how I met Robin.”
Wow, what a way to meet, lol. I always enjoy your flashbacks, and this one was no exception. It added much depth to their relationship.

Thank you so much!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂 I was hoping to show that initial spark between them, especially on Isellta’s side.
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this to you before, but Isellta is probably one of my favorite characters to write. He’s such a fluffy-hearted little thing. I imagine him being kind of like a young golden retriever: a little clingy, a little needy, and just wants someone to pet him on the head and tell him he’s a good boy. 😆 I feel bad about all of the awful stuff I’ve thrown at him, but I have plans for him towards the end. It makes me happy just thinking about it.
