Part 643 – Ambrose Vs. Sammy

Ambrose followed Barbara into Sammy’s Place.

Sammy was sitting at Barbara’s desk.

Ambrose laced fingers with her and it made him feel a little less terrified.

Sammy raised his gaze. “Ms. Addleston, come in.”

Ambrose bristled. He could feel pressure around his neck as if someone were pulling him back on a collar and leash. “Are you excluding me?”

“Of course not, Mr. Smith. Come in.”

The pressure let up.

They approached the desk with their fingers still clutching each other.

“Sammy, I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I stopped at Raven’s house. It was going to be just a quick second.”

He looked at her with a brick’s steady calm. “It was not a quick second, Ms. Addleston.”

“I know.”

“Would you care to explain what happened?”

She blushed and looked to Ambrose for some back-up.

“She’s blaming herself, but it was my fault. All my fault. She and I had a…” He glanced at her.

“A misunderstanding. I couldn’t leave until we resolved it.”

Ambrose almost laughed. Wow. That is such an understatement. “I am sorry, sir.”

“It won’t happen again, I promise.”

Sammy took her pens and pencils out of her pen holder and lined them up in parallel lines. “I could fire you both.” He looked at Ambrose. “I hope you know that.”

“I do, sir.”

“I could rearrange your schedules so you can’t be together.”

Ambrose stiffened.

“I could forbid any interaction between you two while you’re on company time.”

He clenched his teeth.

“I could do many things, Mr. Smith, to prevent this from happening again.”

“I understand, sir.” He smirked. “I understand you’re jealous.”

Barbara gave him a panicked look. “Ambrose. Don’t.”

“Am I wrong? Sir?”

All of the pencils shot up from the desk and flew right at Ambrose.

“Sammy!”

They fell on the counter.

“I made a mistake, Sammy.” said Barbara. “I did. Take it out on me.”

“You know I won’t.”

“But it’s my fault. Fire me. Dock my pay. Send me into the corner for a couple of days. Do NOT kill my fiancé.”

“Ms. Addleston.”

“If you hurt him, I will quit.”

The garbage can rose up into the air, dumped all of its contents on the floor, and crumpled up into a large dented ball.

“And that is not an idle threat.”

The garbage can dropped to the floor.

“I understand, Ms. Addleston.” He focused on Ambrose again. “Consider this a warning. If this does happen again, I will take corrective actions.” Sammy shrugged. “Whatever that may be.”

“I understand.” The day’s heat surged up into his head again. Ambrose winced and pressed his hand against his forehead. “It’s too warm.” he muttered. “Too warm. Too warm.”

His sense of balance went tipsy. He staggered to the left.

Barbara caught his elbow.

“warm. warm. too warm.”

“Sammy. Let me take him home.”

“No.” Sammy rose from Barbara’s seat and walked around to the other side of the desk. “There’s no need for that. I’ll do it. I’ll take him home.”

Ambrose bleared a glare at him. “Just so you know, my home is not at the bottom of Lake Erie.” He rubbed his forehead over and over. “Just saying.”

“I won’t hurt you, Mr. Smith. Or stake you. I solemnly promise.”

“Ambrose.” Barbara laid her hands on his chest.

He looked down at her.

“Please behave yourself. No snarking while he’s driving.”

“I don’t intend to say anything. I just want to sleep.”

“Then, just sleep.” She whispered in his ear, “I am sorry for touching you like that.”

He kissed her. Just a quick moment’s kiss. “Come May 21, you can touch me however you want.”

If someone could die from blushing, Barbara Addleston would have dropped dead.

    1. Hahaha! Thank you! 😀

It made me happy to finally give Sammy a reason to (at least) threaten to carry out what he and his mother had discussed all the way back in Part 535. It was one of those plot points I’ve had in the back of my mind, waiting for the right moment to surface. 🙂

And yes. Ambrose just had to fit in some snarky comments. He just couldn’t resist such an opportunity. 😆

  1. Love the interaction between Ambrose and Sammy. Of course, any appearance of Sammy makes me smile with how objects react to his moods. There for a moment I thought there would be a fight 😉
