Part 498 – High On Happiness

Ambrose stopped half-on, half-off the curb in front of Raven’s house. “Are you sure you don’t want me to drive you home?”

“Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.” She looked at him and just seemed to glow. “I am fine.”

“As am I.” He unbuckled his seatbelt and turned in his seat. “You know what we should do?”

“What?”

“We should go carouse in the streets, sing bombastic Broadway ballads to the very limit of our singing abilities, and let the entire world know that Yes! Ambrose Smith and Barbara Addleston are finally free to get married. Let Heaven and Earth rejoice!”

She giggled. “It sounds like a plan to me.”

“What? You want to?”

“Absolutely.”

He laughed. “Then, let’s do it.”

They got out of the car. She ran over to him and hugged him. “What should we sing first?”

“The most obvious: Almost Like Being In Love from Brigadoon.”

“Mm. That’s a good one.”

“It is and it fits the mood I’m in right now.” He put his lips close to her ear and sang, “What a day this has been!
What a rare mood I’m in!”

She grinned and sang, “Why, It’s almost like being in love.”

He pulled out of her embrace and held her hands. “There’s a smile on my face for the whole human race.”

“Why, it’s almost like being in love. All the music of life seems to be.”

“Like a bell that is ringing for me.” He grinned mischievously and spun her in a circle.

She let out a delighted shriek. “And from the way that I feel when that bell starts to peel.”

“I could swear I was falling.”

“I could swear I was falling.”

“It’s almost like being in love.” Ambrose slipped on a ice patch. He fell and pulled her down. She landed on top of him. They burst into an uproarious mess of laughter.

“We should go to Town Hall and sing If Ever I Would Leave You.” said Barbara.

“Walk or drive?”

“When we’re this high on happiness? Walk, of course.”

He laughed. “Of course.”

Isellta watched them literally waltz up the street. Is that normal for them to act that way? Maybe there’s something wrong inside their heads. I don’t get it.

Robin came up behind him. “Isellta.”

The fey flared out his wings in an involuntary panic. “You shouldn’t sneak up on me like that.”

“And you shouldn’t be spyin’ on people like that.”

Isellta’s wings calmed down. “You shouldn’t be up yet.”

“I’m fine.”

“But…your eye. You can’t go hunting .”

“I’m fine. I can. I will go huntin’. No one’s gonna tie me down again.”

“I’m not. I just…I don’t want you to get staked.”

Robin scowled. “I’m fine.” He walked down the porch steps.

Isellta’s wings flittered in an irritated pattern. “Stupid vampire. Stupid human. Ignoring his limitations.” He followed after him. “Why do humans have to be so chronically stupid?”
