There was a moment of silence.
Donadill perked his ears up. “So? Can I have it?”
“No.”
“Can I look at it?”
“No.”
“Can I lick it? Can I bite it?”
“NO!”
“Return power to this train and leave.” said Elsie.
The tip of his tail tapped in an irritated rhythm. “Give me the flashlight and I’ll leave.”
Elsie folded her arms across her chest. “And what about the power?”
He grabbed his tail and licked the tip with undeserved violence. .
She knocked on his head.
He stopped in mid-lick to hiss at her.
“And what about the power?”
“What power?”
“This train’s power. Return it.”
“Or?”
The door behind them swooshed open. “Ohhh! There you two are.” Bossy looking redhead barged into the scene. “Standing around gossiping instead of doing something useful. Hmph! Kids these days. Don’t know a think about being useful.” She caught sight of Donadill. “And what’s with the giant cat?”
Donadill purred. “She has a lot of energy. I wonder how it compares to electricity.”
Elsie glared at him. “Don’t you dare.”
“Hey! I’m talking here. You three deaf or something?”
Hildreth turned to face her. “Look, we’re kind of in the middle of something.”
“I’d say you are. The middle of being unhelpful and useless.”
Hildreth looked back at Elsie. “You sure we can’t sicc Donadill on her?”
“Yes, I’m sure.” She walked over to the woman. “This really isn’t a good time.”
“Oh, tell me about it. I was going to Kalabaska to spend time with my sister and look at where I am. Stuck on this train going nowhere in the dark.”
Donadill uncoiled himself and strolled over to the two women. He transformed into his human form and smiled at the intruder. “Hello there. I’ve never seen a woman with your colored hair before. Is it natural?”
She slapped him. “I will not stand for such impudent behavior. I’m going to go back to my cabin and call my daughter and have her rescue me from this lousy going nowhere train.” She returned to the other car and slammed the door.
Donadill rubbed his face. “What a woman!” The lightbulbs came back to life. “You guys have fun with the power. I got a woman to pursue.” He entered the other car and the train started up again.

It took me awhile to find where I had left off reading 😉 I love this chapter. The dialogue between all the characters is humorous and I can almost see this in my head like a movie or anime. The final exchange with the fairy cat is especially priceless. 🙂

I would love to fit Donadill back into the story. I just haven’t found the right place, moment, or reason for him to show up again.

This cat is hilarious. “Can I lick it?” 🤣🤣 And I really like the title for this scene. Leave it to the bossy redhead to deliver that insult.

It’s a funny thing. With some chapters, I know right off the bat what I want the chapter name to be. Others…I have to read the chapter over several times to find a common thread to sum it all up into a chapter title.
With this chapter, as soon as I wrote that line, I just knew that had to be the title. It was too good not to use. 😀
